What is Journal of Human Capital?
It’s kind of journal that been published by Bakrie Learning Centre. Bakrie Learning Centre has launched the first edition of Journal of Human Capital on November 26, 2008 in Bakrie School of Management. Journal of Human Capital is planned to be an important place for interaction and knowledge development of human capital.
In the first edition there are 5 papers which have different theme of each. The papers are written by E. Kusumadmo, Hermawan Tardjono, Indra Uno, Dodi Wirawan Irawanto, and Setyabudi Indartono, Hawjeng Chiou, and Chun His Vivian Chen
The paper from E. Kusumadmo titled The Role of Knowledge Management in Organization
It tells about the cause-and-result-relationship between variables of internal organization, competition intensity, and knowledge management in banking and insurance companies. E.Kusumadmo also tried to analyze the conceptual model, his survey of banking and insurance companies in central java.
Result and Conclusion: His 6 hypotheses were strongly approved, those are
- Hypothesis-1 stated that “Organizational culture and ICT usage exert an influence on knowledge management in banking companies”
- Hypothesis-2 stated that “Knowledge management exerts an influence on business performance in banking companies”
- Hypothesis-3 stated that “Organizational culture and ICT usage exert an influence on knowledge management in insurance companies”
- Hypothesis-4 stated that “Knowledge management exerts an influence on business performance in insurance companies”
- Hypothesis-5 stated that “Organizational culture and ICT usage exert an influence on knowledge management in banking and insurance companies”; the higher the organizational culture and ICT usage, the higher the knowledge management in banking and insurance companies
- Hypothesis-6 stated that “Knowledge management exerts an influence on business performance in banking and insurance companies”; the higher the knowledge management process, the higher the business performance in banking and insurance companies
The paper from Hermawan Tardjono titled Relationship Between Social Desirability and Ability-Personality Variables Within Job Applicants
It tells about the relationship between social desirability concept (how people performance are in job interview) and four ability personality variables within job applicants ( Cognitive Intelligent Quotient/IQ, Adversity Quotient/AQ, Achievement Motivation/nAch, and Mental Health/MH)
Result and Conclusion: His 3 hypotheses-from 4 hypotheses were strongly approved, those are
- Hypothesis-1 stated that “ Cognitive Intelligent has significant negative influence on social desirability”; it may be interpreted that job applicant with higher IQ tends to be more careful in distorting response
- Hypothesis-2 stated that ”Adversity Mindset has significant positive influence on social desirability”; it may be interpreted that job applicant with higher AQ tends to take risk in presenting himself or herself in more socially favorable way
- Hypothesis-4 stated that “Mental Health has significant positive influence on social desirability”; Job applicants with healthy mental state tends to present himself or herself in more socially favorable way
The paper from Indra Uno titled Spiritually, Spiritual Values Treatment, and Firm Performance
Indra Uno tried to tell that the performance of firm can be increased by spiritual values treatment of the employees.
Result and Conclusion:
- Spiritual values have been taught from early age by our parents, which include among other things; being honest, being humble, and being helpful toward others. But, along the lines of growing up and being immersed in routine activities, these values are strengthened, diminished, or ever gone from oneself. Spiritual values intervention/treatment is intended to rediscover, restore, and strengthen these values.
- The specific intervention what we call spiritual values treatment takes the format of training, spiritual values training. The spiritual values training is called Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) Training, which is a type of leadership character building training that empowers participant through the increase of participants’ emotional and spiritual intelligence.
4. The paper from Dodi Wirawan Irawanto titled Aplikabilitas Kepemimpinan Paternalistik di Indonesia
It tells about leadership. The writer, Dodi Wirawan, tried to tell that paternalistic leadership which is dominant in Java can be joined with the Morality leadership, kindness, even autocratic.
Result and Conclusion:
Cheng et al (2004) describes that Paternalistic leadership is a style that combine strong discipline and authority, with fatherly benevolence, and moral integrity couched in a personalistic atmosphere.
- Paternalistic leadership can be applied in Indonesia.
- In Paternalistic leadership concept, morality leadership style has the greatest influence of all.
- Autocratic leadership style has relationship with employees’ education; the higher employees’ education, the lower autocratic leadership will be applied.
5. The paper from Setyabudi indartono, Hawjeng Chiou, and Chun His Vivian Chen titled The Knowledge Characteristics Work Design; Analysis of Job Fit Influence on Role Performance
This paper investigates how work design predicted performances mediated by personal job fit.
